Neurotic Owl

flapping vaguely downward through clouds of uncertainty on wings of existential dread

It begins to be finished!

Ok, the panel is ready to stretch, which is its own adventure with this piece. But yay pretty! (Oops almost ready – I need to sew my signature in there somewhere)

The thing is, my plan is to place this into a 12”x12” wooden wine box I scavenged from my mom’s last opening with the excess dyed fabric coming forward into the sides of the box, and then I’ll be playing with what else I want to add in the sides. What that means, though, is that my usual process of stretching over a mulled piece of foam core with straight pins in the edges, then sewing the excess fabric behind the panel won’t work.

I think I have my plan, though – I’m going to set up my mulling fabric (some nice double sided wool left from my winter cloak I made years ago) stretched on the board, pin the panel onto it as it needs to be finished, then take both layers back off and sew the panel to the wool right at the turn line so that when I put the sandwich back on I can flip back and stretch the wool, and it’ll hold the panel stretched properly.

Wheee adventure!
