Neurotic Owl

An interstitial project or three and the weekly thingy.

The big embroidery pieces are done and stretched and literally just need to be photographed properly, but I’m on my ass with a cold and definitely not up to figuring that out right now.

So. I started this kippah for myself back at Yom Kippur, then put it down for quite a while to work on bigger things with actual deadlines and only picked it back up once I had a weekend trip planned and needed an easily transportable fidget project. Anyhow, it’s done now, yay! Battenberg lace technique for the crown section, plus added metallic thread and beading; the sides are dark green velvet and a lace from my stash that I just tea-dyed down to match.

Since I keep my hair dyed fairly dark the lace should show up fine on me – I’m making another for one of my cousins who’s embraced the family white hair, so I think hers will need a dark liner to let the tree be visible unless I do it in darker thread.

After laat weekend’s lavish trip I very badly needed to send a thank you card to the hotel folk who treated us to a crazy VIP experience, so after it slipped my mind to look for a card at the grocery store I suddenly realized I can, y’know, draw, so I made a homemade card to send like a kindergartner (though hopefully with slightly more skill).

And THEN I was in the mood to keep drawing fun little cards, so now there’s a greeting cards section in my Redbubble shop with a few designs for Chanukah, general holidays, and a scan of that thank you card. I’ll keep adding more gradually – it’s a nice little manageable project that’s given me something to enjoy while I’ve been laid up the last few days.

Places to buy stuff!

Did I miss something?  I think that’s everything.

What’s making me happy this week:

Ok so this was really last week, but if you get a chance to stay at the St. Anthony Hotel in San Antonio take it, it was GORGEOUS. Even if we hadn’t somehow gotten to stay in the Presidential Suite (WHAT I KNOW RIGHT) the lobby alone is so beautiful and lavish, I could have just wandered around there taking pictures of chairs with swans on them and crazy rococo pianos and beutiful grandfather clocks for ages. And even better, I was on that trip with a bunch of awesome friends who are all into people enioying themselves and are down for trips to bookstores and wandering along the Riverwalk petting flowers and talking to ducks, and don’t care if I don’t want to drink. I probably got this cold from someone on the trip since three of them are mothers of young children, but whatever, I’ll recover, totally worth it.
