I probably need to change that to semi-weekly thingy with how my posting’s been lately, sorry.

Places to buy stuff!
Did I miss something? I think that’s everything.

What’s making me happy this week:
Not a lot given the world right now, but I did see a very beautiful production of Ben Stevenson’s Sleeping Beauty last night with my Mom, complete with Desmond Heeley costumes, and it was glorious. I sometimes lose a little patience with the story ballets that are 10% plot, 90% divertissements, but between the sprightliness of the choreography and the charisma of the dancers this one never really dragged for me. I do think it was wise to have three intermissions splitting an admittedly long piece into 4 fairly even chunks, the wedding variations can start to feel long when you haven’t had a little break after the third act, and they deserve a fresh audience for the delights of the fairytale characters.
I’m especially fond of the bluebird variations – years ago in a rep class we learned the five fairy variations and the female part of Bluebird for a concert and I campaigned HARD to do bluebird because I loved the fluttery port de bras and my chunky lil feet were great at hopping on pointe (one of the few things that came easily). I was mildly astonished almost thirty years later to realize how accurately I remembered the choreo. It’s nice to have a happy dance-related memory every once in a while.
