Neurotic Owl

flying through clouds of uncertainty on wings of existential dread

In which I sheepishly return a little.

It’s been a few weeks.  Stuff has been changing fast for me as much as everyone, and I’ve been in a weird place.  I’m exceedingly lucky – my job is still continuing to pay me full time to work from home, I have a comfortable apartment with a cat for company, no one in my immediate family is sick, although I just heard last night that at least one cousin is and I’m very worried about her.

It’s mostly just been the fear and the uncertainty – how long will this go on?  What if I run out of work I can do from home?  What if my company has to make bigger cuts?  WHAT IF I MISMANAGE MY CHEESE SUPPLIES oh wait, I did that part.

I wasn’t going to jump on the mask making bandwagon at first for several reasons:

I was waiting for confirmed requests from multiple hospitals with info about materials and methods.

I didn’t want this to turn into a situation like Australia where so many crafters made so much without paying attention to restrictions that it became a bigger logistical problem for them dealing with all the donated stuff.

I don’t have a washer-dryer at home and I do have a cat, so I wasn’t sure anything I made would be acceptably clean and sterile.

But now there are several approved patterns, the need seems fairly infinite, and every donation link I’ve checked says that the masks will be laundered & sterilised first thing, so on to the bandwagon I have jumped.  I’m still limited to what I have pre-washed to prevent shrinkage, but that hasn’t been a big issue – I have a lot of pre-washed fabrics left over from projects or recycled from a ridiculous skirt I thought I’d wear and didn’t.  Hopefully dotted florals, Harry Potter house sheilds, and Kellogg’s vintage adverts will make someone smile a tiny bit (although not as much as having real protection, for the love of god, someone get the N95s flowing).

Anyway, there is something else I want to do.  I’m not doing a ton of drawing right now, but I have a lot of art sitting in my gallery here, so I’m going to try to repost a bunch of coloring books pages for y’all.  Please feel free to print them out and color away,  All I’ll ask is, if you share the finished products on social media please show me on Facebook (Neurotic Owl  has a page!) and maybe mention that they’re my drawings?

Here’s one for today!  Click to embiggen – you knew that, right?

  • TEEPUBLIC: mostly t-shirts, a few other products.  Watch for sales, when shirts drop from $20 to $14!
  • REDBUBBLE: Just, I don’t know, a ton of different stuff.  T-shirts are more expensive than Teepublic, but there are a lot more options.
  • AMAZON: 2 colouring books, and now, a nearly-complete cartoon collection!  (Till I draw more.)

The Neurotic Owl Compendium: still flying through clouds of uncertainty on wings of existential dreadGeeky Gals Coloring BookDaydreams & Whimsies: A Most Fantastical Coloring Book

  • ETSY: beaded jewelry, bags of creepy tiny dolls, and The Neurotic Owl Tarot

Did I miss something?  I think that’s everything.
