Neurotic Owl

The weekly thingy and I can’t just sit still.

I’m out of town in Lorton, VA at the moment hanging out for a couple of days after the reception for ‘Through Her Eyes’ at the Workhouse Arts Center, but a trip actually means a lot of arting has happened since there were lots of (fascinating) Women’s Caucus for Arts meetings and a lot of just sitting around socializing, and in both cases I was almost always sewing or drawing because sitting still is for the real grownups.

I finished a tiny painting I’m very pleased with, but more on that later; for now, the nearly finished ‘Red Shoes’!

As you can see I finished up all that turkey stitch moss, added leaves both embroidered and with the Sculpey beads I made, and drops of blood along her path, along with getting the axe added in using leftover bullion from that awesome kit I was given for Chanukah. I have possibly a little more beading to do, and I want to go back and add blades of grass over the haft of the axe so it’s more clearly sitting on the ground. I also still need to go back and slightly lengthen her thumb and do a little basting cleanup where hand positions changed, but it’s almost time to start working on the miniature elements that will go into the framing.

Places to buy stuff!

Did I miss something?  I think that’s everything.

What’s making me happy this week:

It’s been a fun trip, Mooch seems to LOVE his latest pet sitter (am I mildly jealous? Maybe a touch but mostly thrilled), a lot of good art and conversations were shared and made, and the show reception was fantastic. If you’re anywhere in the DC area get over to the Workhouse Arts Center – our show is in the Vulcan Gallery but the whole place is amazing even if you go after the show closes.

If you’re not local you can at least see all of the artwork here: https://independenceforwhom.artcall.org/pages/web-gallery
