Trigger warning?
So usually this is where, if you haven’t read the book, I say to do so, but there’s a caveat this time. Robin McKinley’s Deerskin is an amazing and wonderful book, but it does contain a brutal beating and incestuous rape scene, and a dog is very badly beaten as well. It’s based on the Perrault fairytale Donkeyskin, and some exceedingly horrifying shit goes down. So, read it if you can? But I’ll understand if that’s not an option.
i’m probably, at some point, going to do another drawing based on the amazing final confrontation scene, but while that is Lissla’s strongest moment, it’s also incredibly painful, and I wanted to give her this first.
