It’s been KILLing me not to tell y’all about this, but while I’m sure The Bloggess does not generally read my thingy, it would serve me right that the one time she did would be the time I gave away her surprise random present. But now she has recieved said present, so hooray!
It all started when the opera company I work for decided to have a garage sale (the less said about that. . . ) and I spotted this magical? alcove of PUPPETS.
And, I mean, puppets, you had me at hello. But I especially fell in love with this one:
The thing is, I have a small apartment and a large cat and just couldn’t come up with a reason I needed to keep the puppet then known as Rosita. Then I remembered that I know someone who delights in the weird and lovely and somewhat offputting, so I boxed her up in the most disturbing way possible and mailed her to The Bloggess.
(She was well hydrated first.)
I needed some extra joy this week. This will do nicely.
So fantastic!!! Well done!
Thank you!
Dear god how do I get on your Christmas list??
It’s a Chanukah list, so mostly people just get disappointing socks, really.
I followed The Bloggess’s link over here. Hi. 🙂
Hallo!
Me, too!! I love that you mailed her a slothsquatch!! It’s like a beautiful friendship I knew nothing about and now can peek in!! Thank you!
That was perfect and your card was awesome!
Thank you!
Best surprise gift eva!!!
I’d love to follow you on fb. Do you have a link to your page?
Thanks!
So I suck and only had a personal Facebook page till you asked, but now I have made a separate page for the blog! Except I’m on my phone and only just did it, so no expecting anything much there tonight, please! And thank you!!!
And now I’ve finally gotten on a real computer and figured out how to share the link! Who’s learning? I’m learning. https://www.facebook.com/neuroticowl/
Love the slothsquatch, and even more so love the idea of it showing up as a surprise gift! Found you through The Bloggess, and I have a feeling I’ll be very glad I did! Weird on! 🙂
I cannot LOVE this enough! Bravo and well done!
Oh, _YAY!_ I get to share this twice in one day.
The Peanut Vendor
English lyrics by L. Wolfe Gilbert (who was my husband’s great uncle).
_“The English lyrics are, in the opinion of Sublette, of almost unsurpassed banality.”_
And I totally didn’t realize that Rosita/Mr. Noodles long career included opera. How perfectly obvious, now that I think about it.
Well dang. Just the link and not the video?
Must try just one more time…
I’ll just let myself out, then.
“Mr. Noodles, the last of the great castrati, famously took the stage in Johann Smythe’s deathless operetta, Die Flederlemur, in the role of Rosita, a beautiful young spider monkey forced to sell peanuts by her evil circus trainer. The Met production staged in 1928 is still spoken of in hushed, appalled tones.”
Yes!
Yes!
All of your are amazing.
OMG, I used to make costumes at an opera… this is awesome.
Would you please put Lisa B’s comment on a t-shirt with a pic of Mr. Noodles?
May, I am just now seeing your lovely comment and wanted to thank you. Actually, I want to give you a hug. You made me smile so big.
Amazing gift!
Well your gift certainly improved my day! Thanks from a random person on the internet!!
Sooo totally cool that you work for an opera company! I used to play in the pit orchestra for a couple of summer opera programs, one of which liked to play at least one totally weird or obscure opera each season.
I also followed der linkenmeister from The Bloggess. You are full of awesome! I’ll be happy to swap Hanukkah socks with you any time, although it’s going to be Christmukkah this year. 😉
So I’m guessing that Rosita was in an all-puppet production of Carmen?
She’s apparently been lurking on the warehouse for so long that nobody knows what show she was built for. I vote for the all-monkey Cenerentola.
You go girl…you are The Blogess’ ‘friend” and I am UBER jelly!
Rambled on over from the Bloggess. 🙂
The eyes weird me out on Mr. Noodles/Rosita – Big time. But hooray for fun gifts for friends. I loved the knock, knock note included with it. Very well done! Wishing you much success (and I love your recommendations on organizations to help out.)
Happy Hanukkah!
I love Mr. Noodles, and so, obviously, does Jenny. That was a lovely thing you did.
Theatre provides so many fun opportunities to send random items to friends!
Another wanderer from the Bloggess, came to visit, here to stay.
I saw that Mr. Noodles has made a great entrance at The Bloggess’ home. What a wonderful surprise gift indeed! I think her furry kids will need therapy, though. 🙂
I aspire to reach this level of gift giving. From the card to Mr. Noodles, this was amazing.
